Weather Station
Project Overview
The Weather Station is a Raspberry Pi-powered environmental monitoring system that collects and displays real-time atmospheric data including temperature, humidity, and barometric pressure. The data is presented on a local LCD display and simultaneously logged to a CSV file for trend analysis, making it a practical tool for understanding local microclimate patterns in Trivandrum.
Key Features & Implementation
- Multi-Sensor Array: A DHT22 sensor measures temperature and humidity while a BMP280 module captures barometric pressure and altitude via the I2C bus, all polled every 10 seconds.
- Live Data Display: A 20x4 I2C LCD screen shows all sensor readings in a clean, formatted layout with color-coded status indicators via an RGB LED strip.
- Historical Data Logging: A Python script continuously logs all readings with timestamps to a structured CSV file, enabling data analysis and trend visualization using matplotlib.
Challenges Solved
Running the data logger continuously required managing Raspberry Pi's SD card write cycles to prevent premature wear. The solution was implementing a buffered write system that accumulates 60 readings in RAM before flushing to disk, reducing write frequency by 98% while preserving all data integrity.
